6 Fascinating Internet Usage Statistics for 2025

    1. Explosive Global Growth

As of 2019, the global population stands at approximately 7.7 billion, with over half having access to the internet. Currently, 4.4 billion people are connected, presenting a vast market for anyone looking to venture into online business. This figure continues to rise, having increased by over 360 million—an impressive 9%—in just one year.

    2. The Mobile Surge

Creating a mobile-friendly website is crucial as mobile internet users have surged to 3.99 billion, accounting for 52% of the global population. It’s not just the number of users that’s growing; the time spent online via mobile devices is climbing as well. In 2014, smartphones accounted for 26% of online activity. Fast forward five years, and with advancements like 4G networks, high-speed broadband, and expanded public Wi-Fi, 48% of our online activity now takes place on mobiles—a trend that’s expected to grow as mobile technology evolves.

    3. Time Spent Online

On average, internet users spend an astonishing 6 hours and 42 minutes online each day, although this varies by country. For instance, the Philippines sees an average of over 10 hours daily, while Japan averages just over 3 hours. In the UK, the average is 5 hours and 46 minutes. This extensive online presence presents ample opportunities to engage visitors on your website.

    4. Social Media’s Continued Expansion

Promoting your brand and website on social media is an effective way to reach vast audiences. The latest figures show 3.5 billion social media users, up by 288 million since 2018. On average, people spend 2 hours and 15 minutes daily on these platforms, with Facebook leading the charge at over 2.2 billion active monthly users. Despite challenges, loyalty to Facebook remains strong. YouTube follows with 1.9 billion users, and other Facebook-owned platforms like WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram also hold significant user bases.

    5. The Rise of E-commerce

If you need more motivation to launch your website, consider the surge in online spending. E-commerce is growing at an annual rate of 14%. In 2018 alone, online retail spending reached an estimated £1.98 trillion, highlighting the lucrative potential of online marketplaces.

    6. The UK: A Prime Location for Online Business

Amidst reports of physical stores closing due to online competition, it’s notable that online sales still account for a small fraction of total sales in countries like Japan, Canada, and the US, where they comprise less than 10%. The UK, however, leads with e-commerce accounting for 18% of all sales in 2018, up 2% from the previous year. In comparison, the US saw only 8.9%. The UK has maintained its position at the forefront of online shopping for the past four years, with China being the closest competitor. This creates a promising environment for launching an online store in the UK, offering a means for brick-and-mortar businesses to tap into the thriving e-commerce market. With the average Brit spending £1,200 annually online, the market is ripe for growth.

    Conclusion

The internet continues to transform our lives, and these statistics underscore its significant impact. The sheer amount of time people spend online is particularly noteworthy. With increased device access and a plethora of online activities like streaming movies, gaming, and music, this trend is understandable. For those contemplating an online business, these figures highlight the abundant opportunities available.

  • Crafting Reader-Friendly Content for Better SEO: A Guide

Crafting Reader-Friendly Content for Better SEO: A Guide

In today’s digital landscape, creating content that is easy to read and understand is crucial for driving higher search rankings and attracting more visitors to your website. Here, we will explore how to craft engaging copy and effectively structure it on your site, combining SEO copywriting with a well-organized website framework.

Why Readability Matters More Than Ever

The importance of readability in SEO is increasing for two main reasons. First, the rise of voice search places a greater emphasis on content that is accessible and clear. Second, Google’s algorithms are evolving to become more sophisticated and human-like in their assessment of content.

    The Rise of Voice Search

Even though voice search is still gaining traction, major search engines like Google are heavily investing in this technology. They are presenting search results in a conversational manner, which underscores the need for readable content. If a voice search returns a lengthy, complex passage filled with difficult words, it becomes challenging for users to understand. Google prioritizes results that are easy to comprehend, both in voice and traditional formats.

    Google’s Evolving Algorithm

Google’s algorithm is increasingly capable of predicting what users want to read, mimicking human behavior in its text evaluation. As Google’s understanding of content becomes more refined, the demands for readability rise. The algorithm now analyzes text topics much like a human would, by scanning subheadings and the opening sentences of paragraphs, and looking for transitional phrases to quickly grasp the article’s main points. This means that the structure of your content and how you craft your paragraphs are becoming more critical. Key sentences, particularly the first sentence of each paragraph, are gaining importance.

    Requirements for Readable Content

To ensure your content is both understandable and SEO-friendly, it should include numerous transitional phrases, which help readers grasp the connections between ideas. Clear content features short sentences and avoids overly complex or lengthy words. The structure of your text is vital; key sentences play a significant role in conveying the core message of your article or post. While meeting these requirements may seem daunting, creating high-quality content that satisfies both your audience and search engines is ultimately beneficial.

By focusing on readability and structuring your content thoughtfully, you can enhance user experience and improve your site’s SEO performance, aligning with Google’s goal of delivering relevant and accessible information to all users.

  • Understanding CloudLinux: The Power Behind Enhanced Shared Hosting

Understanding CloudLinux: The Power Behind Enhanced Shared Hosting

What is CloudLinux and Its Role in Shared Hosting?

CloudLinux is a robust, Linux-based operating system designed to enhance the efficiency and stability of shared hosting environments. By introducing kernel modifications to the standard Linux distribution, CloudLinux allows system administrators to meticulously manage server resources, ensuring that each user account operates independently. This is achieved through the use of LightWeight Virtual Environments (LVEs), where each account is allocated a specific portion of the server’s resources.

Imagine a scenario where one account starts experiencing a massive spike in traffic or consumes excessive CPU and memory. Instead of the entire server slowing down or crashing, only the specific LVE is affected, maintaining optimal performance for other users.

Advantages of CloudLinux in Shared Hosting

In a shared hosting setup, numerous websites coexist on a single server, sharing its resources. Traditional hosting often struggles with resource management, especially when one site starts hogging resources. This can lead to server slowdowns or outages, impacting all users. CloudLinux mitigates these issues by setting resource limits for each account, preventing any single account from monopolizing server resources. Here’s how CloudLinux transforms shared hosting:

The CloudLinux Advantage in Shared Hosting
    1. Dedicated Server Resources
Each customer benefits from a personal allocation of server resources, such as memory and CPU, thanks to LVE technology. This ensures that no resources are shared among different accounts, providing stability and consistency.

    2. Enhanced Stability
Sudden traffic surges from one site won’t disrupt others. With dedicated resources, each account remains unaffected by the activity of other sites on the server.

    3. Hardened Security
CloudLinux’s fortified kernel offers robust protection against malicious activities, safeguarding all accounts on the server from potential threats.

    4. PHP Version Flexibility
CloudLinux offers a PHP selector feature, allowing users to choose from multiple PHP versions to best suit their needs. With over 120 PHP extensions available, users have the flexibility to customize their environment. Versions include PHP 4.4 through 5.6, ensuring compatibility and performance.

    5. Optimized MySQL Performance
MySQL Governor is a standout feature, addressing the common issue of database performance in shared hosting. It monitors and controls CPU and disk input/output usage in real-time, identifying and throttling resource-heavy accounts. This feature supports the latest versions of MySQL and MariaDB, making it indispensable for shared hosting providers.

    The CloudLinux Solution

By integrating these advanced features, CloudLinux significantly enhances the stability of shared hosting environments. Customers enjoy reliable service, free from the disruptions caused by resource-intensive neighbors. If you’re still facing resource-related challenges, our dedicated customer support team is ready to assist in diagnosing and resolving any issues.

CloudLinux stands as a powerful ally for shared hosting providers, ensuring a smooth, secure, and efficient hosting experience for all clients.

  • What to Consider When Choosing a Shared Hosting Package

What to Consider When Choosing a Shared Hosting Package

Shared hosting is the most affordable way to launch your website online. Despite being less expensive than VPS, dedicated server, and cloud hosting, it’s crucial not to compromise on quality. Unfortunately, many people don’t fully understand what to look for in a shared hosting package and may end up with subpar service. To assist you, we’ve created this straightforward guide.

    Operating System: Linux or Windows

A common misconception is that if you use Windows on your personal computer, you should use it for your website too. In reality, most websites are hosted on Linux servers. If you’re planning to use platforms like WordPress, Magento, or Joomla, Linux is typically the best choice.

Before deciding between Linux or Windows, verify the software you intend to use. Often, the software will dictate the operating system you need.

How Many Websites Will You Host?

While many individuals only need to manage a single website, others, such as online marketers, may require multiple sites. If this is your situation, remember that some shared hosting plans limit the number of websites you can host, often by restricting the number of databases you can create. For instance, at HostingInIndia, our Basic plan allows for ten websites, but for a slightly higher fee, our Advanced plan offers unlimited sites.

How Much Storage Do You Need?

Consider how much space you’ll need for your website’s software, files, and images. Most websites don’t require a significant amount of storage. Compared to software on your computer, website programs are relatively small, and web pages are usually compact too. The largest files you’ll likely need are images and videos.

For those running multiple websites or eCommerce sites with numerous images, more storage might be necessary. For smaller websites, 2GB of storage is usually sufficient. However, packages offering up to 20GB are available, accommodating multiple sites and larger data volumes.

Be cautious of companies that limit the number of files you can store, as this can indirectly restrict your usable space.

    Always Opt for Unmetered Bandwidth

Bandwidth refers to the amount of data your website sends and receives. If you have a monthly bandwidth quota, remember that every page view or interaction on your site uses some bandwidth. While each action might consume only a small amount, these can accumulate quickly if you have a lot of visitors.

To prevent reaching your bandwidth limit and having your site go offline, choose a hosting package with unmetered bandwidth. This way, you can have as many visitors as you like without worry. At HostingInIndia, all our shared hosting packages offer unmetered bandwidth.

    Choose High Performance

Several factors affect your website’s speed, including the number of plugins and page sizes. However, one critical factor is the type of web server hosting your site. Ensure your host uses the latest hardware to provide the computing resources your site needs for smooth operation. This helps your site load quickly on both computers and mobile devices.

A one-second delay in loading can lead to customer loss and a 7% reduction in sales. Thus, it’s crucial to carefully assess the technology employed by your host. At HostingInIndia, our shared hosting runs on the latest high-performance Dell PowerEdge hardware, which we regularly upgrade.

Look for an Easy-to-Use Admin Panel

Managing your website should be straightforward and intuitive, ideally through a control panel with a user-friendly interface. This makes tasks like setting up a new site, updating software, and managing your account simple and convenient.

The most user-friendly control panel for shared hosting is cPanel, widely used by web hosts. Ensure your web host is well-trained in using cPanel to effectively handle any issues. At HostingInIndia, we are not only a certified cPanel provider but also the leading company in cPanel expertise, topping the cPanel University leaderboard for exams taken and passed.

    Security Features

The last thing you want is for your website to be hacked or infected. When choosing a shared hosting provider, select one that offers a range of security features to protect your site. Look for intrusion detection, firewalls, SSL certificates for encrypting payment data, email scanning, spam filtering, and remote backups to quickly restore your site if needed.

    A Host That Stays Online

Once your website is live, you don’t want a host that frequently goes offline. This can damage your site’s reputation, lose visitors, and even result in lost sales. Look for a web host that guarantees your site will always be available. For shared hosting, ensure the provider offers uptime of 99.9% or more.

    Additional Features

Beyond the features mentioned, a good web host should offer the following on your shared hosting account: unlimited email accounts using your website’s domain (e.g., me@mywebsite.com), 24/7 technical support via phone, email, and live chat, providing expert assistance whenever you need it, and a ‘no minimum’ contract length, so you’re not tied down if you decide to switch providers.

    Conclusion

The quality of hosting you choose can make or break your website, so it’s essential to choose wisely and consider the benefits and features of each package. Hopefully, this article has highlighted the key features to look for when selecting shared hosting.

If you’re searching for shared hosting with all the recommended features, check out our range of shared cPanel packages at HostingInIndia.

  • Preparing Your Website for the Voice Search Revolution

Preparing Your Website for the Voice Search Revolution

The way we search online is rapidly evolving, with voice search becoming a dominant force. Technologies like Google Assistant, Siri, and Cortana, along with devices such as Alexa and Google Home, have made voice search more accessible and precise than ever before.

According to Top Quality 3, 40% of adults currently use voice search at least once a day, and it’s predicted that by 2020, half of all searches will be conducted this way. This shift in search habits will impact how websites appear in search results and necessitate changes in search engine optimization (SEO) strategies.

How Does Voice Search Differ from Traditional Text Search?

To understand how your website can adapt to voice search, it’s crucial to recognize the differences between voice and traditional text-based searches. With traditional searches, users often rely on concise, keyword-focused phrases like “supermarket Cambridge.” In contrast, voice searches tend to use natural, conversational language, such as “Find me a grocery store in Cambridge.”

Text-based searches typically yield a list of results based on keywords, while voice searches leverage artificial intelligence to deliver precise answers to specific queries. For example, if you ask, “Where’s the nearest grocery store?” a voice assistant might respond with, “Your closest grocery store is Tesco, 2.5 miles away.”

The distinction lies in how search engines use keywords versus how digital assistants understand the intent and meaning behind a query to provide the most relevant results.

    Are Keywords Still Important?

Yes, keywords remain essential for helping your website rank in both traditional and voice searches. However, the approach to using them must evolve. The current trend is to incorporate keywords naturally within your content, focusing on long-tail keywords that reflect the way people speak.

For example, instead of cramming keywords into awkward phrases like “local builder Swansea,” consider writing content that organically includes phrases such as “find a reliable builder in Swansea.”

Search engines and digital assistants now use AI-based algorithms to comprehend user intent better. This understanding allows for more natural keyword integration and emphasizes providing detailed, relevant information that users are likely to seek.

The Impact of Voice Search on Your Website

Imagine you’re in Birmingham and craving pizza. A voice search for “a great Neapolitan pizza” will generate results beyond just a list of local pizzerias. AI algorithms will assume you want a nearby restaurant, using GPS to locate options while considering factors like reviews, social media check-ins, and operating hours.

This means your website has a better chance of appearing in results if all relevant information is available. Ensure your site includes reviews, enables social media check-ins, lists business hours and addresses, and is featured on platforms like Google My Business to improve visibility on maps.

    Voice Search Optimization Tips

To help your website excel in voice search rankings, consider these optimization tips:

    • Ensure a Responsive Website: Many voice searches are conducted on mobile devices by users on the go. If your site isn’t mobile-friendly, you’ll miss out on voice search opportunities.

    • Focus on Long-Tail Keywords: As mentioned, ensure your content reads naturally and incorporates long-tail phrases reflective of spoken language.

    • Use Schema Markup: Schema markup is an additional layer of HTML tags that helps search engines better understand your content, improving the likelihood of appearing in relevant search results. For more information, explore resources on search engine optimization.

    • Add a FAQ Section: While keywords drive text searches, voice searches often take the form of questions. FAQs provide clear answers to common queries, increasing your chances of ranking well in voice search results.

    Conclusion

Voice search is set to become increasingly prevalent. With the rapid development of artificial intelligence, it may not be long before keyboards become relics of the past and text-based searches are consigned to history. As such, website owners must consider how this shift will impact their search rankings. By following the tips outlined here, you can position your website to thrive in the voice search landscape.

If you’re managing a website and seeking excellent hosting with features to enhance your search rankings, explore our range of affordable cPanel hosting packages.

  • 5 Indications Your Web Hosting May Be Limiting Your Success

5 Indications Your Web Hosting May Be Limiting Your Success

Shared hosting is the most affordable way to launch your website. While it is more economical than VPS, dedicated server, and cloud hosting, this doesn’t mean you should compromise with subpar resources and features.

Unfortunately, many people are unaware of what to look for when choosing a shared hosting package, which can lead to disappointing service. To assist you, we’ve compiled this straightforward guide.

    1. Choosing Between UNIX and Windows Operating Systems

A common misconception is that if you use Windows on your home computer, you should do the same for your website. In reality, the majority of websites are hosted on UNIX servers. For software like WordPress, Magento, or Joomla, UNIX is the recommended choice.

Before deciding between UNIX and Windows, check the software you plan to use. Often, the software itself will dictate the necessary operating system.

    2. How Many Websites Do You Plan to Host?

While most individuals only need a single website, others, such as online marketers, may require several. Be aware that some shared hosting packages limit the number of websites you can host, often by restricting the number of databases you can create. For instance, at HostingInIndia, our Basic plan allows ten websites, but our Advanced plan offers unlimited sites for a slightly higher monthly fee.

    3. How Much Storage Space Do You Need?

Consider how much space you’ll need to store your website’s software, files, and images. Most websites require minimal space, as web programs are generally small and web pages are compact. However, if you plan to run multiple sites or eCommerce platforms with numerous images, you might need more storage.

For smaller websites, 2GB of storage is usually sufficient. However, packages offering up to 20GB are available and can accommodate many sites and large data volumes. Be cautious of companies that limit the number of files you can store, as this can indirectly restrict your space usage.

    4. Opt for Unmetered Bandwidth

Bandwidth refers to the amount of data your website transmits and receives. If you have a monthly bandwidth limit, remember that every page visit, image view, or video stream consumes bandwidth.

Though each action consumes a small amount of bandwidth, high traffic can quickly add up. To prevent your site from going offline when you hit a bandwidth cap, choose a hosting package with unmetered bandwidth. At HostingInIndia, all our shared packages come with unmetered bandwidth.

    5. Prioritize Performance

While several factors influence your website’s speed, such as the number of plugins and page sizes, the type of server your site is hosted on is crucial. Ensure your host uses the latest hardware to provide the necessary computing resources for fast loading times on both computers and mobile devices.

A one-second delay in loading can lead to a 7% reduction in sales as users abandon slow sites. Therefore, it’s essential to scrutinize the technology your host employs. At HostingInIndia, our shared hosting runs on the latest, high-performance Dell PowerEdge hardware, and we perform regular upgrades.

    6. Look for an Intuitive Admin Panel

Managing your website should be straightforward, and a user-friendly control panel facilitates this process. Whether installing a new site, updating software, or managing accounts, ease of use is essential.

The most user-friendly panel for shared hosting is cPanel, widely used by web hosts. Ensure your host is well-versed in cPanel to handle any issues that may arise. At HostingInIndia, we are a certified cPanel provider and a leader in cPanel expertise, topping the cPanel University leaderboard for exams taken and passed.

    7. Security Features

The last thing you want is for your website to be hacked or compromised. Choose a shared hosting provider that offers extensive security features to protect your site, such as intrusion detection, firewalls, SSL certificates, email scanning, spam filtering, and remote backups to restore your site quickly if needed.

    8. Reliability

Once your website is live, you need a host that ensures it remains online consistently. Downtime can damage your website’s reputation, deter visitors, and result in lost sales. Look for a host that guarantees 99.9% uptime or higher for shared hosting.

    9. Additional Features

A quality web host will also provide additional services with your shared hosting account, such as unlimited email accounts using your domain name (e.g., me@mywebsite.com), 24/7 technical support via phone, email, or live chat, and flexible contract terms without minimum lengths.

    Conclusion

  • 6 Essential Strategies for Building a Thriving E-commerce Business

6 Essential Strategies for Building a Thriving E-commerce Business

Are you contemplating starting a successful e-commerce business? With platforms like WordPress, creating an e-commerce website and launching it online is easier than ever.

However, while setting up your site is straightforward, transforming it into a sustainable and thriving business is more challenging. In this article, we’ll explore six key strategies to help you grow your new store into a flourishing e-commerce enterprise.

    1. Choose Products That Will Sell

This might seem like obvious advice, but it’s crucial to differentiate between what you think will sell and what you know will sell. To build a successful business, focus on products with a proven track record of popularity and consistent sales.

One way to identify trending products is by monitoring their performance on social media. If a product is receiving substantial likes on Facebook or mentions on Twitter, it’s a clear indicator of interest. Additionally, check reviews on other retailers’ websites. A high number of positive reviews signals a product’s popularity. Finally, use Google Trends to see how often people have searched for these products over time, providing insight into future demand. Keep in mind that some products have longer lifecycles than others. While some may remain in demand for years, others might only be popular for a few months. Avoid investing in inventory just as it’s going out of fashion.

Ultimately, successful product selection boils down to thorough market research. Understanding what sells increases your chances of success significantly.

    2. Implement Established E-commerce Practices Tailored to Your Needs

There’s a well-established method for online selling that countless successful businesses have refined over the years. This method works because it’s proven effective. Rather than diving in blindly, take the time to understand this approach and adapt it to your business. Consider various factors, such as the products you sell, your sourcing methods, your promotional strategies, how you optimize your landing page, and ways to enhance customer lifetime value.

Through experimentation and analysis, you’ll discover which tactics yield the best results for your business.

    3. Build a Trustworthy Website

With so many fraudulent sites online, creating a store that visitors find trustworthy is vital—especially for new brands being discovered for the first time. An SSL certificate is essential, ensuring that customers’ payment details are encrypted and earning you the coveted ‘green padlock’ security icon in the browser address bar.

Offering money-back guarantees, free shipping, and live chat are additional ways to build customer confidence.

The design of your site is also crucial. It should align with your brand and the products you offer. Customers have expectations of what trustworthy sites look like, so it’s beneficial to observe what successful competitors are doing before designing your own site.

    4. Test Your Ads for Maximum ROI

To ensure your ads have the greatest impact, it’s important to test them. Test different ads on various audiences to gain a better understanding of where to invest your resources for the highest returns.

If one ad proves particularly successful, replicate and scale it to generate more sales. However, do this incrementally to manage your budget wisely.

Three effective strategies for online ads include using compelling language that encourages social sharing, leveraging scarcity tactics like “while supplies last,” and offering volume discounts such as “buy one, get the second half off.”

Email marketing is undeniably an effective advertising method with a high ROI. To succeed here, aim to get as many people as possible to subscribe to your email list or newsletter.

    5. Provide Exceptional Customer Support

To boost sales, enhance customer satisfaction, and generate positive online reviews, offering excellent customer service is crucial. For online stores where customers can shop at any hour, ideally, this support should be available 24/7.

One of the best ways to achieve this is through live chat. It assists customers with purchasing decisions and addresses issues that may arise after the product leaves the warehouse. This approach benefits the brand’s reputation and fosters repeat business, increasing customer lifetime value.

    6. Fortify Your Site with Reliable Web Hosting

Never underestimate the importance of quality web hosting in building a successful e-commerce business. Good hosting ensures your site is always accessible, loads quickly for your customers, and keeps their data secure. It protects you from hacking and malware, provides backups for quick disaster recovery, and offers the computing power to handle traffic surges during busy periods.

The strength of your web hosting underpins your business. Without reliable hosting, you cannot guarantee your site will perform as needed.

    Conclusion

E-commerce sites are not automatic money-making machines. While building them is relatively straightforward, turning them into a successful business requires extensive research and hard work. Hopefully, the six strategies outlined in this article provide you with a deeper understanding of how to make your site successful.

Important: Ensure that you verify your Java application’s requirements concerning the JDK and Tomcat versions. Using incorrect versions can lead to numerous issues and potentially prevent your application from starting.

    Step 2: Domain Mappings

Before Tomcat can manage your JSP pages and Java applications, you’ll need to specify the domain names to be processed by the Tomcat application service. Select the desired domain name from the “Map a domain to private JVM” drop-down box. This action will create a domain entry in the server.xml file and deploy a default application WAR. Each domain you manage will have a docBase directory, located at:

    /home/username/jvm/apache-tomcat-xx/domains/

    Step 3: Deploying Your Application

There are various methods to deploy your Java application, with the most straightforward being the deployment of a WAR file. Please note that this option is not available for our Shared JVM packages.

Important: If you wish for your application to be accessible at http://domain.name, rename your WAR file to ROOT.war before deployment. Using any other file name will make your application accessible at http://domain.name/filename.

    I. Deploying via WAR
    • Through Private JVM Tool: Navigate to “Mapped Domains” within the Private JVM tool, select “Upload WAR,” and follow the instructions.

    • Via Tomcat Management Applications: Use Tomcat Manager or Psi Probe to deploy your WAR file.

    • Using FTP: Access the “Mapped Domains” section to locate your specific path, such as /home/your username/JVM/apache-tomcat-x.x.xx/domains/your domain.name/, and upload the WAR file to this directory.

    II. Deploying Application Files

Upload all necessary files via FTP to the path specified in “Mapped Domains.” The typical path structure is:

    /home/your username/JVM/apache-tomcat-x.x.xx/domains/your domain.name/

    Step 4: Starting Your Server

Once your application has been uploaded, you’re ready to launch the application server. Simply press the “Start” button within your Private JVM tool.

Note: If your domain name has not yet been pointed to our service, you can test your site using the following method: Click the “Preview” link in the “Mapped Domains” section to access our preview tool. Choose the domain and click the button to proceed.

By following these steps, you can efficiently set up and manage your private JVM on a Linux cPanel environment. This guide ensures your Java applications run smoothly and are easily accessible.

HostingInIndia: Reducing Inode Usage on cPanel Web Servers

    Understanding Inode Usage in cPanel

In the world of web hosting, particularly when using a cPanel server, understanding inode usage is crucial. Inodes are data structures that store metadata about files and directories on your hosting account. Essentially, the inode number indicates how many files and folders are present on your server. But what exactly is the inode limit?

    Inode Restrictions on Hosting Plans

For those using Shared or Reseller accounts, there are specific inode limits to be aware of: a soft limit of 100,000 inodes and a hard limit of 3,000,000 inodes. Reaching the soft limit won’t immediately halt your ability to upload files, but once the hard limit is met, you won’t be able to add more files or receive new emails.

    Monitoring Inode Usage

To keep track of your inode usage, simply log into your cPanel account. On the left side of your dashboard, you’ll find the ‘File Usage’ statistic, which gives you an insight into how many inodes your account is currently using.

    Strategies to Reduce Inode Usage

Many users might not be familiar with inodes unless they manage a complex website or have high email traffic. To ensure optimal performance and prevent resource abuse on our Shared and Reseller hosting plans, we enforce inode limits. However, not all inode issues are due to misuse. Sometimes, a little housekeeping is all that’s needed to manage inode usage effectively. Here are some practical steps you can take:

    1. Delete Unnecessary Files and Folders

Start by reviewing your files and directories manually. Determine if each file is necessary. If you find old backup archives or folders used for testing or staging, consider deleting or downloading them via FTP or File Manager in cPanel.

    2. Clear Outdated and Spam Emails

Old emails can significantly contribute to inode usage. Check your mailbox for spam or irrelevant emails and delete them to free up inode space. You can manage this through your email client or webmail. If you need assistance, our support team is available 24/7 to help you delete these emails efficiently.

    3. Manage Cache Files

Content Management Systems (CMSs) like Joomla use cache files to speed up response times, but these can quickly accumulate and increase inode usage. Regularly monitor your cache folders and keep the number of cache files to a minimum. Many CMSs offer built-in tools to purge cache files, or you can set up a cron job to automate this process.

If you’re still facing inode issues after cleaning up your files, it might be time to consider upgrading to a Virtual Private Server (VPS). Our support team is always ready to assist you with this transition.

By following these steps, you can effectively manage your inode usage, ensuring your hosting environment runs smoothly and efficiently.
